Tips to find creativity # 3: Go for a walk

"When things get too difficult to find creativity at home, it's time to go for a walk." When I first heard this advice, I was pretty skeptical about following it. As someone who loves to be in the comfort of my own home, the idea of going for a walk to take a breath and find renewed creativity felt weird to me. This fact was further emphasized by the place I was living, where it felt either uncomfortable or unsafe at times to just go walk around aimlessly. So instead, I tried to push through it at home, and tried to get that relaxing feeling from the comfort of my own room. Most of the times, it was to no avail, and I found myself with a huge creative block.
And as I suffered with this creativity block, I kept hearing the same piece of advice being thrown in my direction, over and over again. To the point that the idea was starting to seed its way deeper into me.
I don't recall exactly when was the first time I genuinely decided to do it, however, but what I can say is that, I don't regret it.
Of course, as I mentioned before, it may be difficult if one is in an area that is unsafe to walk in, but if you have the ability, I would definitely recommend to give it a go.
If you have access or live nearby to an area filled with nature, such as a park or a forest, that makes it even better.
In my experience going for a walk in a place like that has honestly done wonders for my creativity and my energy levels. While it doesn't work all the time, there's just something about the fresh air, the nice breeze, the sights of greens and blues, that just has a way to boost my creativity, especially when paired with listening to something cozy on my headphones, like a song I like or just an instrumental playlist.
If you're worried about coming up with an idea, but not being able to write it down, then there's always solutions for that too that one can use even when one is out and about. Two that I usually use are to:
1) Have a section of my notes section just for sporadic ideas that occur to me on my walks.
2) I use the voice recorder and talk about my ideas while I walk. This method has honestly been such a wonderful one for when I just want to talk through an idea without spoiling them to anyone else.
So, my dear reader, if you think that going for a walk could help you boost your creativity while getting in some exercise, I would definitely say go for it.
Just make sure to be safe and wear comfortable shoes if you do!
Stay tuned for the next creativity finding tip!
