Even though I would say this tip is one, if not the most important, to continuously be creative, I find that it is also the one that people seem to overlook the most.
It is a wonderful feeling to be creative and to live in that feeling. There are so many benefits to letting one's creativity take over and to do stuff one is passionate about. However, there are times in life where things happen that may affect those feelings from being able to flow like it usually does. Things like losing a job, losing a loved one, having an argument with a friend, a bad at work, and so many other situations that can affect us not only emotionally, but physically, as well. And in moments like these, it's very easy to desire the feeling that being happy in one's creativity has to offer. But that doesn't always work out. For most (if not all) of us, our creativity is heavily reliant on our mental state, which can make it all the more difficult when bad things happen around us and then, to make matters worse, doing something that will help you out doesn't seem to work.
But I am here to tell you that it's not all doom and gloom.
In order to continuously to feel creative, it is important to take care of yourself. Both physically and emotionally. This will help boost your creativity and your energy to be able to put into your creative projects. Self care is a term that is different for everybody, but it's incredibly important regardless. If you're feeling under the weather and things have just not been going well for you, here are some suggestions of things that I've done to take care of myself in order to increase my creativity:
Take a nice shower/bath - This can help to de stress you when bad things happen, with the additional benefit of making you feel squeaky clean, as well.
Eat something tasty - Whether that's buying something to eat that you love or cooking a favorite of yours, this will make it easier to handle your feelings if you treat yourself.
Go for a walk - As I mentioned in a previous blog post, going for a walk can be a great way to change your surroundings and your mentality.
Watch/Play something that you really like - It could be a video game you've been wanting to play or a comfort video you love, as long as it makes you feel better.
And the list can go on. You know yourself best and what you need in order to feel better. Just remember that it's okay to focus on yourself and to take a moment's pause from your creative projects. That's not to say that pause will go on forever. Sometimes, it's just better to prioritize how one is feeling over forcing oneself to work on a project when one is feeling low.
The feeling won't last forever and I am sure that eventually, you'll get back to doing what you love again.
So dear readers, if you're feeling low and can't get the creativity out, focus on yourself and do something that makes you happy to take care of yourself. I am sure things will get better and your ideas will be there waiting for you to come back.
Stay tuned for the next creativity finding tip!
